Spontaneous visit to Cap d’Agde at Easter
From the Oasis, where I’m currently spending my Easter vacation, it’s about 80 km to Cap d’Age.
So yesterday I spontaneously decided to give the largest naturist resort on the Mediterranean a quick visit. The idea behind this was also that there wouldn’t be too many people around at the moment, which would make it possible to take a few photos.
As soon as you arrive at reception, you notice that the area is a huge construction site. A large new apartment building is apparently being constructed in the entrance area. The new apartments are being advertised everywhere. Then I then to the makeshift parking lot and bought my ticket for the day. A totally unfriendly lady at the counter. She wanted the IDs of all the people traveling with me, as all the data had to be recorded. I dared to ask. Pure bureaucracy! An employee like that is not a figurehead for an internationally well-known vacation destination. People come to such a demotivated lady full of anticipation and expectations and get a negative first impression.
The price for a “normal vehicle” plus 2 people for one day is 26 euros, a high price. Incidentally, minibuses and vans are not allowed in. Apparently they want to prevent people from sleeping in their cars.
A lot has also changed in the complex itself. Everything has been “spruced up” a bit, although not much can be done about the ugly buildings from the 70s. However, the entire area around the harbor has been changed. The street is now reserved for pedestrians. A few street cafés have been set up and everything now looks brighter and friendlier.
I parked the car and walked across the complex to the beach. The wind was quite chilly, so it was out of the question to undress. There were only a few people out and about, nobody was naked. Work and renovations were going on everywhere. All the stores were closed. They probably don’t open until Pentecost. Only a few cafés were open.
When I arrived at the beach itself, I was a little disappointed. The otherwise great beach looked rough and dirty. A few winter storms had obviously left their mark here. It was too chilly to lie on the beach anyway. But it will probably look “normal” again in a few weeks.
Then I walked back towards the harbor and sat down in a street restaurant to have a cappuccino. It was a little sheltered from the wind there and you could stand it in the sun. Slowly, one or two naked people passed by the café. So I was in a nudist resort after all, lol! By now it was already past midday. I was able to put my top in my swim bag as the sun was now shining warmly. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough to do a completely naked tour. So it was back to the car and back towards the Oasis.
